“First grade is an incredible year of growth, both academically and socially. I am so fortunate to be able to experience my students’ enthusiasm and wonder firsthand.”
Susie Brandmeyer joined the Lower School faculty in 2020 as a Head Teacher in Grade 1. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Washington and Lee University and a master’s in education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Before coming to Poly, Susie taught at PS321 in Park Slope, Henry Clay Elementary in Richmond, VA, and at Grace Church School in Brooklyn Heights. She also has extensive experience tutoring elementary, middle, and high school students throughout New York City. Susie volunteers at Read 718, a non-profit whose mission is to close the literacy gap in Brooklyn while developing strong, confident readers. In her own classroom, Susie strives to foster each student’s love of school, while creating an environment that inspires her students to learn more about themselves and the world around them. When she isn’t teaching first grade, Susie enjoys reading, running, volunteering, and exploring the city with her family.
